Jenna: Is this one of your must have items?

So again, another snowday, and while listening to a boring work teleconference, I was checking out the newly updated JCrew website when I came upon THIS! It comes in two colors....I don't know what it is about this...I don't exactly hate it. I just don't really like it. I really like jumpsuits/rompers and have been an advocate of the look since it first surfaced last spring. But, this is just NOT flattering...it reminds me of the jumpsuit that my house painters wore. Just cut the sleeves off and crop the pants and you have your own JCrew version. Now, I may be mistaken, so if anybody tries this and falls in love please let me know.....I'm kinda curious!

Mean Girls???!!......not so much...Sorority Dress Codes

In all of my snow downtime, I was perusing the internet news while sipping a glass of Malbec. I came upon an interesting article discussing a set of dress code guidelines that were leaked online for a Cornell sorority. The dress code specifically refers to the different stages of the RUSH week process.

You can read the article here: Mean Girls.... including the entire 6 page document.

Here's an excerpt:
Some of the commentors (including the blogger who discussed it) were really offended by these "suggested" guidelines outlined in this 6 page document.

Personally, I didn't really think it was that big a deal. I was in a sorority in college and we didn't have anything this formal but we definitely had an inferred dress code. And it was made very clear to us from our first semester in the sorority that what you wore to class (ie sweats), or to go out (black pants or black "hooker" boots and glitter makeup) was NOT what you wore to the sorority formal or the chapter meeting. And going out into the world after college, I was and still am regularly subjected to written dress codes -- black tie for a wedding, business for a work meeting, business casual on a friday, elegant resort wear for a destination business trip, semi-formal for a baptism and on and on and on. So to me, this printed document presented to the prospective pledges is nothing more than a written dress code, the same as any company or professional organization would have.

Now on the other hand, some of the other comment posters said that they were offended because it "told" someone how to dress or implied that their was no option other than conformity. My opinion is that these pledges want to join this sorority, they want to conform, they want to belong, and if they didn't then they wouldn't have pledged this sorority. Perhaps they would have chosen another, or maybe greek life isn't for them at all.

I don't know, I just don't understand why this is such a big deal.....maybe because I dress "similarly" to this dress code...I don't know.

What do you think?

FYI: Cornell has made a formal statement that they don't think this is a big deal and will not pursue any disciplinary action against the Sorority in question.

Wednesday, February 10

So it's still snowing...in fact now it is coming down at 2 inches per hour...for about the next 6-8 hours. Seriously! Thank god some neighborhood kids came buy who we paid 30 bucks to shovel the sidewalks, walks, and driveway. We still have to shovel the deck (it is over the garage and i'm not really interested in 3 feet of snow collapsing onto our cars!)......

So I ordered a few things from JCrew yesterday for the Spring...nothing too crazy just a few pieces to fill in gaps in my wardrobe or replace worn out/tired items. And I used a free shipping code. Well imagine my chagrin this AM when I discover the "Shhh" 20% off everything promo in my inbox. I called JCrew and asked for the promo to be applied to the order I put in last night but of course they said no. (I can't complain too much b/c at Christmas I ordered a sale sweater that was labeled wrong...should have been a M and was actually a XL and JCrew Customer Service not only overnighted me a new sweater but also told me to keep the other one which I gifted to a friend!).....But I was forced to go on the website and resubmit my order this AM to get the 20% off. I was also really excited to discover a popback of the purple Leopard print dress I've been lusting after and a embossed beach dress for $39.99. We will see if they ship but if they do with the extra 20% off they will be a really good deal!

So here is sending warm thoughts to all of you impacted by this storm! And those in sunny warm places...lucky duck!

Well I'm back sort of....it has been a really really really long time since my last post. Alot has happened.....we sold a house, were building a house, bailed on that house, moved into short term rental apartment, found a new house, moved twice, and now, finally, are settled in our new "old" house. (ie...it is not new construction but it has been completely redone....)

So my shopping has been drastically cut back.....unless it is for home decor. Home Goods is my new favorite hangout.....LOL.

Because of this lovely weather we've been having, we have been spending lots of time in front of our fireplace.

And now, we are getting even more snow. We got 28 inches over the weekend and just as we got shoveled out from that, we are expecting another 18-24 inches tonight....this is ridiculous...I live in Philly, not Alaska or Chicago for that matter.

Thank God I have a business trip to Florida next week....we are staying at the Ritz in Orlando and then I am spending a long weekend in Sarasota with 2 work friends...I'm very excited for girl talk and wine time!!

I'm really going to try to blog more frequently. Life has finally settled down a bit (and I have a reliable internet connection!)......
